Soul of the Blues

By Sophie J. Posey

Soul of the Blues
Jazz single
Oh why can’t I
Have some peace
Every day there’re new
Problems waiting for me
Oh woe keeps singing
Through my clarinet
It weeps and cries
Along with my tearsOh why does everything I touch
Turn to rotted dreams and blight
It’s like life keeps taunting me
With its gnarled grasp

I think the gods have turned their backs
Despite our efforts and labors
I’ve reached the end my friends, yes I’ve reached the end

I think I’ve walked in Fortune’s grace
For far too long
I’ve stretched
Stretched fates’ patience
Stretched my own sanity

Oh why can’t I
Have some peace
Every day there’re new
Problems waiting for me

Oh woe keeps singing
Through my clarinet
It weeps and cries
Along with my tears

Oh woe keeps singing
through my clarinet
It wails the blues all day yeah
Oh my soul is breaking
And so is my clarinet’s.
